Marajo Reis

“Torpedo Jo” Reis has 20 years of boating experience in both sail and power vessels.  He is an active member and instructor at the UW Madison Hoofers Sailing Club and sails competitively on scows and keelboats for the Mendota Yacht Club.  Jo feeds his need for speed on windsurfers in the summer and ice boats in the winter.  In 2000, Jo and two friends purchased a 38’ Fountaine Pajot sailing catamaran in the British Virgin Islands and circumnavigated the globe over the following two years.  A journal of their voyage is still available at http://www.ladybugadventures.com/.

Jo currently co-owns a 35’ 1965 Chris Craft Roamer powerboat that he has partially restored.  His projects included engine rebuilds, shaft alignment, head installation, and woodwork.  He also has a collection of homemade wooden boats, including a rowing shell, a canoe, and an ice boat.

On land, Jo grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil before attending college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He received his degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for Marquip in Madison for five years. He is now an entrepreneur and founding member of Court Data Technologies.
